Bennington College offers low-residency programs designed for working professionals who are seeking opportunities to develop their skills in French, Spanish, and/or pedagogy. Students can choose to complete one of the following options:
The Masters' programs consist of two weeks of on-campus study in Vermont during three summers, and online coursework during two school years.
Drawing from the philosophy that shapes the College's Isabelle Kaplan Center for Languages and Cultures, the MATSL program teaches fluency through cultural content rather than language mechanics. Language teachers develop speaking, reading, writing, and listening skills by exploring specific cultural issues that interest them. Pursuing topics they’ve chosen, participants learn the fluency they need to answer the questions that drive them, and apply the experience and knowledge gained from courses in language, culture, and pedagogy to their classrooms.
