  • Alan ’15

“Music and film are things I love that are not in my Plan. I plan on taking piano lessons through all of my time at Bennington. I go to a lot of concerts and recitals throughout the term and am almost always playing records in my room. Whenever I have room, I try to take theory and composition courses. In terms of film, I watch movies constantly, especially over the summer and over Field Work Term. I take ‘100 best films’ lists as a challenge and compulsively watch movies—even ones I’m not interested in—in order to have seen all the classics. It is borderline obsessive.”

  • Alana ’15

“During my last Field Work Term, I created a movement-therapy workshop for traumatized and mentally handicapped women of Maher, an organization in India that aims to rehabilitate the untouchable women through vocational training and adult literacy classes.”

  • Amira ’13

“If I were at the center of everything, I’d be scuba diving in the middle of the ocean—my dream house is a boat in the middle of the Pacific with a microbiology lab and painting studio on board.„

  • Anushka ’14

“The first thing I did at Bennington was explore. I spent quite a bit of time checking out the graveyard, covered bridge, treehouse, trails, etc.”

  • Caseysimone ’14

“The Happy Spaces Project didn’t exist before I made it. It’s an online project that attempts to create a synthesized understanding about how the physical environment affects people’s happiness”

  • David ’13

“My Plan’s title is Preaching to the Crowd: A Study of the Collective Mind, and it’s focused mainly in social Psychology, Evolutionary Biology, and Ancient Greek Philosophy. I’m really interested in how groups of people become crowds, unified and capable of acting as a collective.”

  • Emma ’13

“I love to play card games, especially when I've only just learned them. I love to read an entire book in one sitting, and walk around in the haze that always follows. I love to float in the sea. I never thought it would be possible to truly connect with someone without a language in common besides smiles, laughter, and dancing. But it is.”

  • Eric ’13

“The first thing I did at Bennington? Explore. I’m from New York City, so living in rural Vermont was a big change for me. I took Kerry Woods’ freshman seminar and went walking through the Blue Trail, and I did a lot of walking to North Bennington and all over campus.”

  • Evan ’13

“What I love to do that’s not in my Plan is watch scifi/horror movies, sleep in, plan/get tattoos, listen to Pavement, travel, tomfoolery, try to grow beards, watch hockey, anything NASA, walk in the woods, eat stuff, grill stuff, and research grad schools.”

  • Ezra ’13

“What I did first at Bennington was collaborate on a devised piece of physical theater called Ghost Light. It introduced me to a world of non-narrative, experimental theater that blew open my perspective on what theater can be.”

  • Glennis ’15

“What didn’t exist before I made it is my day in six words project that I made for my digital arts class last term.”

  • Holly ’13

“What I love that’s not in my plan is old/classic movies, pugs, and jazz.”

  • Jason ’13

    I love public radio!

  • Jessieh ’13

This is a picture of Finderprints, a play I wrote that was produced as part of the Bennington Playwrights’ Festival last spring.

  • Julia ’15

“I love to craft, but there are only a few things I can craft well. What I love to make most are Kraslice (Czech Easter egg). These are decorated using a wax-resist and dye method, similar to Batik. Kraslice are a very old Eastern European tradition; doing it connects me with my grandma and heritage.”

  • kevin ’13

"I study in the social science discipline—political economy with a side of philosophy, public action for dessert, served with a glass of Spanish. Surprisingly my plan did not pass, but I am working on narrowing it down."

  • Leah ’13

“If someone had asked me when I was 15 if I thought I’d be studying American history at college, I would have laughed in their face. I was TERRIBLE at it in high school. I guess I had some preconceived notions about history before I got to Bennington (boring memorization of dates and wars). But, as soon as I realized that history is just the study of stories, every academic interest I had seemed to come together. I never thought I’d be where I am!”

  • Liam ’13

“I’m a musician, and when I’m not on the meal plan, my diet consists of yogurt, peanut butter, and soft boiled eggs.”

  • Michael ’15

“After the first day of Susan Sgorbati’s ‘Solving the Impossible’ course, I now believe anything and everything is possible.”

  • Michaela '13

"Something that didn't exist before I made it is a paper maiche pillow I made for my advanced painting class last year! It's a piece to represent comfort."

  • Nina ’15

“What didn’t exist before I made it is a collection of ceramic teapots influenced by human gesture and body language.”

  • Parke ’15

“I love to run, especially outdoors at night—although last term during a ‘peaceful’ jog around the starlit Jennings Music Building I was chased by an evil, mid-sized, semi-hairless cat (although NO ONE believes me except Campus Safety).”

  • Rachel ’14

“What didn’t exist before I made it was a series of small oil portraits of people, places, and things that are the most important to me in my day-to-day life. It was the first time that I felt that I had made pieces of art that truly meant something to me.”

  • Riley ’13

“I have Big Dreams that involve going to Seattle, playing music, eating fruit and fish from the markets, petting dogs…the usual.”

  • Sarah ’15

“The first thing I did at Bennington was sit on the rocks at the End of the World, squinting to see if I could decipher the colors of the cars rolling by.”

  • Selina ’15

“Something that didn’t exist before I made it is a small, self-portrait crafted out of yarn that I handspun from raw fleece, as well as colored using all natural dyes. I wanted to experience the whole process from fiber to finery so I started with smelly, greasy wool, washed it, carded it, spun nearly a mile of yarn, dyed it using five different natural materials (such as onion skins for golden yellow) and finally wove a small tapestry depicting my face.”

  • Seth ’13

I live in Bingham House (a colonial). I am a vegetarian, and there’s nothing I love more than discussing movies, music, and books with friends.
