learning by doing

A primary difference between Bennington and high school is that instead of just talking about big ideas, crazy ideas—you get to actually do them.

Advance Placement and International Baccalaureate

Bennington does not grant academic credit or specific course exemption for Advanced Placement scores.

Bennington recognizes the International Baccalaureate and G.C.E. “A” Level work. Students holding either diploma may petition for credit approval after completing one term of work at Bennington. Advanced work in a discipline in high school may allow students to place into higher level courses at Bennington. This is determined in consultation with the Dean’s office and faculty once a student is on campus.

Early Entrance/Early College

We regularly review early entrance applications from qualified students who are prepared for college before they have graduated from high school. We pay particular attention to your academic record, essays, recommendations, and interviews as a way to evaluate your capacity to begin college early. You will follow the same application process as our traditional applicants; however, if you plan to apply for financial aid you will be required to receive a passing score on a federally approved “ability to benefit” test (the SAT and ACT do not satisfy this requirement).

If you are admitted to Bennington, you may request a high school diploma from your high school, or GED from your home state after successfully completing your first year at Bennington.
