Checkout Time

  • Undergraduates | Thursday, May 30, 4:00 pm: If you are leaving between 4:00 and 6:00 pm, you may wait for your ride in Barn 100, as long as you have checked out of your room and returned your key to Campus Safety. Note: Campus Safety will make their usual rounds through the houses. Students who are not graduating and are not on the late checkout list will be fined $100 for each two-hour period that they have stayed past the checkout deadline, with fines totaling up to $300.
  • Undergraduates with an approved late checkout | Saturday, June 1, 2:00 pm: If you plan to stay after 4:00 pm on Thursday, May 30, you must complete a Late Checkout application and return it to the Office of Student Life by Friday, May 24, at 5:00 pm. Students working during Commencement are required to fill out the Late Checkout application, as well. The cost to remain on campus for students not working during Commencement is $75, and can be paid in the Office of Student Life with cash, a check, or with your Bennington Card. This fee is used to offset staffing costs, rooming, and to cover the following meals: dinner on Thursday, May 30; breakfast and lunch on Friday, May 31; and breakfast on Saturday, June 1.
  • Graduates | Sunday, June 2, noon

Return Your Keys

Before you leave, lock your door and return your key to the locations listed below. Make sure to get your key return receipt to avoid fines.

  • Wednesday, May 29–Friday, May 31: Key Room (Commons), 9:00 am–5:00 pm, or Campus Safety at all other times
  • Saturday, June 1: Key Room (Commons), 8:00 am–2:00 pm, or Campus Safety at all other times
  • Sunday, June 2 (graduates depart by noon): Campus Safety

Note: The College cannot assume any responsibility or liability for property left in Barn 100 (after 6:00 pm on Thursday), in student rooms, suites, or house common areas after the closing dates listed above. Items left in rooms are considered abandoned property and, as such, will either be donated to local charities or discarded.

The Damage

In early July, you will receive an itemized room and house damage “projected bill.” If the cost of repair is higher than estimated, an additional amount will be billed before the fall term begins. You may pay the damage repair charges before July 22 in the Office of Student Life. If you do not pay any damage charges owed, they will appear on your August tuition statement. Questions? Contact Sarah Walcott (x4332). Appeals will be processed at the start of the fall term.

Questions about Storage

On Campus

  • Can I leave my car on campus over the summer? Yes. Stop by Campus Safety before Wednesday, May 29, to apply for a long-term vehicle parking permit. If approved, you will be assigned a designated spot in the Ohio Lot.
  • Do I really have to move all of my stuff out of my room and my house? Yes, absolutely. Remove all of your belongings from closets, desks, and dresser drawers. Any items found in rooms during room checks will be disposed of at the College’s discretion.
  • Should I empty my locker or studio? Yes. Any items on campus in lockers or studios must be removed by the end of the term, unless an arrangement has been made with the appropriate technician or staff member. Any items left, including bicycles, will be donated to local charities or disposed of.
  • Is there a place to store my stuff during the summer? Yes. You may rent a storage pod through Buildings & Grounds. Each pod can hold the belongings of up to four dorm rooms. A summer rental costs $495.
