Dean of Students
Xenia Markowitt joined Bennington College in July 2015 in the position of dean of students while also overseeing the department of student life. Prior to Bennington, Markowitt was dean of students for two years at Marlboro College where she created a first-year education program focused on building intercultural competencies, and enhanced emergency and disciplinary responses to misconduct and mental health emergencies. Prior to that, she was the associate dean for campus life at NYU Abu Dhabi where she helped to found the student affairs division for the new satellite campus.
Markowitt has also held a variety of posts in student affairs at Dartmouth College over 14 years. She has a master of arts degree in Latin American and Caribbean Studies from NYU and also has her BFA from NYU in Film and Television Production. Markowitt was born in Spain and grew up as a “third-culture kid” in many countries, and speaks a number of languages.
