Barber has been a professional photographer full and part time for more than 25 years, and has taught beginning photography at the college level. He has also worked in the publishing industry in positions from clerk to management. Barber's photographic work has included the documentation of art and performance, as a service to artists, publications, and institutions. Trained in traditional film photography, he has embraced the rapidly evolving world of digital photography, but has used film and digital media photographing portraits, weddings, products for catalogs, fashion, and newspaper work. His personal work has tended towards photojournalism, with projects including race car builders, diner habitués, hunters, an annual deer-rifle sight-in and breakfast, and a high-school girls' soccer team. He has received funding for some of his work from the New York State Council on the Arts. A runner, hiker, paddler, frisbee-slinger, and general outdoors type, Barber and family live in Cambridge, New York. He joins Bennington as the Photography Technician in the fall of 2007.
