Liz Deschenes, Photography
Deschenes work will be included in a group show entitled Color Chart at The Museum of Modern Art, NYC, Winter 2008. In 2007, she had two solo exhibitions, Registration at Miguel Abreu Gallery, NYC, and Photographs at Sutton Lane, London, 2007. Her work has been exhibited internationally including The Contemporary Arts Center, in Cincinnati; The Metropolitan Museum of Art, NY; Forum Stadtpark, Graz, Austria; The Museum of Photographic Arts, San Diego; The International Center of Photography, NY; Andrew Kreps Gallery, NY; and Galerie Nelson, Paris. Her photographs are in the permanent collections of The Metropolitan Museum of Art and The Whitney Museum of American Art. She was a recent recipient of an “Anonymous was a Woman” award, and has also received an Aaron Siskind Foundation grant. Her work has been published in both Rethinking Photography and Concrete Photography. As an artist, curator, and educator, she has been dedicated to expanding the dialogue around the medium of photography, and its relationship to other artistic practices. She has taught photography in the graduate department of Photography and Related Media, at The School of Visual Arts, NYC, and has been a visiting artist/critic at Columbia University's Graduate School of the Arts. BFA, Rhode Island School of Design. Deschenes joined the Bennington faculty in the fall of 2006.
