Laurie Detenbeck, Italian
An experienced teacher of Italian at all levels, Detenbeck has a special interest in early Italian opera and Renaissance drama. Her twenty years of teaching experience include positions at the Peabody Conservatory of Music, Johns Hopkins University, the College of Notre Dame of Maryland, and Siena College. She has presented papers on the commedia dell’arte and on women in Renaissance drama, and has collaborated on the development of a language software program for Italian. Detenbeck has been a diction coach for musical ensembles and teaches privately. She completed her BA and MA degrees and doctoral coursework at the University of Toronto. She joined the Isabelle Kaplan Center for Languages and Cultures at Bennington in fall 2007.
