Catherine Filloux, Drama/Playwriting


Filloux's recent plays include: The Beauty Inside, presented by New Georges/NYC and InterAct Theater Company/Philadelphia in 2005; Eyes of the Heart, presented by National Asian American Theatre Company/NYC in 2004; Silence of God, presented at the Contemporary American Theater Festival/Shepherdstown, WV, in 2002; Mary and Myrna, presented at the Contemporary American Theater Festival's 2000 Season and at Todd Mountain Theater Project/Roxbury, NY in 2002; Photographs from S-21, presented around the world; and Lemkin's House, presented at Kamerni Theatre/Sarajevo. Her opera librettos include The Floating Box: A Story in Chinatown, with composer Jason Kao Hwang which premiered at the re-opening of Asia Society in 2001and is out on CD this year with New World Records. Her awards include The Kennedy Center Fund for New American Plays' Roger L. Stevens Award; the Eric Kocher Award, presented by the O'Neill Theater Center; the Callaway Award, presented by New Dramatists; and Fulbright Senior Specialist grants to Cambodia and Morocco. Her plays have been published by Smith & Kraus, Playscripts, Inc.,Vintage, and Dramatic Publishing. Her articles have been published in American Theatre, Manoa: In the Shadow of Angkor and The Drama Review. She received her MFA in Dramatic Writing from Tisch School of the Arts at NYU and her French Baccalaureate with Honors in Toulon, France. She is a member of New Dramatists. She will be a visiting faculty member at Bennington for the fall term of 2005.
