Cadence Giersbach, Painting
Giersbach makes paintings, murals, and public art works that deal primarily with ideas of pictorial space and location. Works have been exhibited at venues including Roebling Hall, Sandroni Rey, Deitch Projects, White Columns, P.S.1., Wave Hill, Brooklyn Museum of Art, Galerie Faurschou (Copenhagen), Galerie Asbæk (Copenhagen), Museo Rufino Tamayo (Mexico City), and Kunsthalle Nürnberg (Nürnberg). Public art works are located in New York, New Jersey, and Florida, and include a mosaic ceiling commissioned by the Manhattan Transit Authority to be installed on the L line in Brooklyn. Educated at Vassar College (BA), Rutgers University (MFA), and the Skowhegan School, Giersbach has received fellowships from the New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA), the Pollock-Krasner Foundation, Vassar College, and the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation. Residencies include Cité Internationale des Arts, Nordisk Kunstnarsenter Dalasen, and The MacDowell Colony. Teaching experience consists of courses in painting and drawing at Alfred University and design and color at Rutgers University. Giersbach was a visiting faculty member at Bennington for the 2006-07 academic year and returns for the fall term of 2007.
