Frederic Hand, Guitar
A graduate of the Mannes College of Music, Hand was a Fulbright scholar in England and a student of Julian Bream. He has appeared as a guest artist with the New York Philharmonic, Mostly Mozart Festival, Marlboro Music Festival, and Orchestra of St. Lukes, among others. He was appointed the Metropolitan Opera's guitarist and lutenist in 1986. Hand arranged and performed the theme for the movie Kramer vs. Kramer, which led to a best-selling recording, Baroque and on the Street (CBS). Other recordings include Jazzantiqua and Heart's Song (Music Masters), Trilogy (Musical Heritage Society) and Solos (Willow). His television scores include Sesame Street, As The World Turns, and The Guiding Light, for which he earned an Emmy Award. G. Schirmer, Theodore Presser, and Mel Bay publish worldwide more than a dozen volumes of his compositions and arrangements. Hand serves on the faculties of Conservatory of Music at the State University of New York at Purchase and the Mannes College of Music. He has taught at Bennington since 1999.
