Sculpture Faculty Member Jon Isherwood Appears on Northeast Public Radio (July 13, 2007) [Read more.]

In October 2004, a solo exhibition of work by Isherwood was at the John Davis Gallery in NYC. An interview with Isherwood appeared in the September 2004 issue of Sculpture magazine.

For graduates of the Class of 2004, Isherwood came up with the following question: What shape were you before you came to Bennington? What shape are you now? Here are a few of their responses:

  • “I was a dot out for a stroll and I became a line.” — artist Paul Klee
    “When I got here I was a spoke. Now I’m a hub.”
“A solitary drop of water and now I am a ripple in a pond.”
“Before I came to Bennington I was an adjective. Now I am a verb.”
“I was written down and put in a box in a closet for posterity. Now I’m motion and sound and utterly airborne.”
“I was an ear turned into a mouth.”

Bennington magazine, September 2003: Recent exhibitions featuring Isherwood ’s work include 21st Century British Sculpture, Peggy Guggenheim Collection, Venice, Italy, ISC Collection, Denver City Art Museum, Art on the Digital Edge, Academy Art Museum, Easton, MD, Grimaldis Gallery, Baltimore, MD, John Davis Gallery and Time & Space Limited, both in Hudson, NY. His work was also seen at Omi Sculpture Park, Omi, NY, Franconia Sculpture Park, Franconia, MN, and Lincoln Wood Park, Chicago, IL. He installed the last two sculptures of a 12-piece commission for the State Arts Board of Minnesota. In May Isherwood was awarded an Honorary Doctorate by SUNY Plattsburgh.
