David LaBerge, Psychology


Specializing in the attention process, LaBerge has conducted experiments using response-time methods of cognitive psychology and brain imagining methods of neurobiology, for which he received grants from the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Mental Health, and the Office of Naval Research. His approximately 70 publications include papers in the Journal of Neuroscience, Neural Computation, Journal of Cognitive Neuroscience, Journal ofExperimental, Perception & Psychophysics, Neuropsychologia, Brain Research Reviews chapters in books, and a book Attentional Processing: The Brain's Art of Mindfulness (Harvard University Press, 1995). He served for 21 years as Music Director and Conductor of the Minnesota Bach Society Orchestra and Chorus (1959-1980), and performs occasionally with the Simon's Rock Jazz Ensemble. BA, College of Wooster; MA, Claremont University; PhD, Stanford University. He has taught at Indiana University, the University of Minnesota, and the University of California at Irvine. He is currently a member of the adjunct faculty in psychology and biology at Simon's Rock College of Bard.  He will be a visiting faculty member at Bennington for the fall term of 2005.
