Mina Nishimura, Dance Guest Artist
Mina Nishimura, a native of Tokyo, Japan, moved to NYC in 2001 where she studied at the Merce Cunningham Studio under scholarship. She has performed for numerous independent choreographers including David Gordon, RoseAnne Spradlin, DD Dorvillier and Chantal Yzerman. Nishimura has been dancing for Kota Yamazki/Fluid hug-hug and working as an assistant since 2002. In 2003-2004, she participated in three residencies in Senegal as an assistant choreographer for the creation of FAGAALA. Her own choreography has been seen at Joyce Soho, Cunningham Studio, Danspace Project, and Movement Research. Nishimura was awarded a creative residency through Dance Theater Workshop from fall of 2006 through spring of 2007 and presented an evening-length work, Tuna, at DTW’s Studio Series in May 2007. Most recently, she played one of the principal roles in Harry Parch’s opera Delusion of Fury at Japan Society. BA, Ochanomizu University, Tokyo. Nishimura will be a dance guest artist at Bennington for the spring Term of 2008.
