Roche presented a paper entitled “Maternity and Sublimation in Hugo’s Quatrevingt-treize” at the 30th Annual 19th-Century French Studies Colloquium held in October 2004 at Washington University in St. Louis.

In Spring 2004, Roche published an article entitled “Inscribing his Ideal Reader(ship): Victor Hugo and the Shaping of le lecteur pensif” in French Forum (Volume 28, No. 2).

In Fall 2003, Roche presented a paper entitled “The Inscription of the Historical Figure in the Novels of Victor Hugo” at the 29th annual 19th-Century French Studies Colloquium in Tuscon, AZ. She also wrote the introduction and notes to a translation of Victor Hugo’s Notre Dame de Paris published in January 2004 by the Barnes & Noble Classics Series.

Roche presented a paper, “Strange Love: Animals in the Novels of Victor Hugo” at the 19th-Century French Studies Colloquium held in Columbus, OH, in October 2002. She also published an article, “The Use and Abuse of Legality in Villon’s Testament” in The French Review, October 2002.
