In September 2004, was featured on Performance Place, a program of WAMC, the public radio station in Albany. Chamber Music, a new CD of music by Shawn, was issued by Albany Records in August 2004. It includes Childhood Scenes played by pianist Yoshiko Sato, Episodes for cello and piano with Maxine Neuman on cello and Shawn on piano, and String Quartet No. 4, played by the Music from Salem quartet. Bennington magazine, May 2004: The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) honored Allen Shawn with a Deems Taylor Award for his highly acclaimed book, Arnold Schoenbergs Journey. The annual award honors outstanding print, broadcast, and new media coverage of music. Shawn's composition, "And in the air these sounds....," conducted by Kate Tamarkin, was performed by the Vermont Symphony Orchestra in March 2003. The piece was commissioned by the Monterey Symphony Orchestra for the 100th anniversary of the birth of John Steinbeck. |
