Two new paintings by Spence were included in a group exhibition at the Edward Thorp Gallery in NYC in Fall 2004. His painting Flow was part of a group exhibition at the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in Washington, DC. Vanity, a new print, was included in Pace Edition’s exhibition at the IFPDA Print Fair in NYC in November 2004.

Bennington magazine, November 2004: The newly established Art History Project continued this year with a series of provocative lectures. Faculty members Donald Sherefkin, Spence, and Steven Bach explored architecture, art, and film. Their lectures were entitled, respectively, “Notes on the History of the Window,” “Art of the ’50s and ’60s,” and “A Perspective on Film History.”

Bennington magazine, September 2003: Spence contributed the original cover art of Conjunctions, Bard College’s literary anthology. Entitled 40 x 40, the issue features 40 works by 40 writers, including John Ashbery, Joyce Carol Oates, and Lois-Ann Yamanaka.
