Kota Yamazaki, Dance Guest Artist
Kota Yamazaki was born in Niigata, Japan and now lives in New York. Yamazaki was introduced to butoh through the teaching of Akira Kasai then became a finalist in The Platform of Bagnolet Competition in 1994. Since the establishment of his first company “Rosy co.”, the company has performed at the Indonesian Dance Festival, Place Theater in London, Biennale Nationale de Danse Val-de Marine, Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival, Bates Dance Festival, Buena Center for the Arts, Chicago Columbia College Dance Center and Yorkshire Dance Festival, among others. He moved his resident to New York in 2002 and, with his new group “Kota Yamazaki/Fluid hug-hug,” has presented works at PICA TBA Festival, Melbourne International Festival, Dance Theater Workshop, NUS for the Arts in Singapore among others. Yamazaki has received the Bessie Award with Germaine Acogny for the choreography of FAGAALA on Senegal-based company Jant-bi in 2007. Yamazaki will be a dance guest artist at Bennington for the spring Term of 2008.
