Tom Bissell, Nonfiction


Bissell's books are Chasing the Sea: Lost Among the Ghosts of Empire in Central Asia (Pantheon, 2003), Speak, Commentary, with Jeff Alexander (McSweeney's, 2003), and God Lives in St. Petersburg and Other Stories (Pantheon, 2005). Bissell presently works as a freelance writer and journalist and has in the past worked as an editor at W.W. Norton and Henry Holt. He also worked in the Peace Corps in Uzbekistan. His nonfiction, fiction, and reviews have been published in Harper's, The Believer, Granta, Boston Review, Virginia Quarterly Review, The London Observer Magazine, The New York Times Book Review, and elsewhere. He has also been anthologized in Best American Travel Writing 2003 and 2005, Best American Science Writing 2004, and Best American Short Stories 2005. He lives in New York City.
