How to Apply
First-Year and Transfer Students
(U.S. citizens and eligible non-citizens)
First-year and transfer students who are U.S. citizens or eligible non-citizens must submit the following as early as possible (see deadlines). All but the tax returns can be completed online and are accessbile through My Financial Aid. (Note: Independent students need not provide parent information.)
Note: Before filing the FAFSA, a student should get a federal PIN at www.pin.ed.gov. The parent of a dependent student will need a separate federal PIN (if parents are separated or divorced, the custodial parent, who completes the FAFSA, should get the PIN). Both a student PIN and a parent PIN are needed to serve as electronic signatures for the FAFSA.
- Parents’ 2007 Federal Income Tax Return, signed, including tax schedules and W-2s
- Student’s 2007 Federal Income Tax Return, signed, including tax schedules and W-2s, if the student will file
Students whose natural parents are unmarried, separated, or divorced must also submit:
- CSS/Noncustodial Parent PROFILE (Bennington’s CSS code: 3080)
- Noncustodial Parent’s 2007 Federal Income Tax Return, signed, including tax schedules and W-2s.
Other special circumstances:
- Transfer Students. Transfer students must submit an updated academic transcript to the Admissions Office once they have completed their current semester.
- Business or Farm Owners. Students whose parents own a business or farm or who are part of a corporation or partnership should submit a Business/Farm Supplement or the tax return filed by the business (corporation, S-corporation, or partnership).
- Trust Fund Beneficiaries. Trust fund beneficiaries should submit a copy of the trust document and a copy of the most recent financial statement showing the current value of the trust.
