Roughly 10 percent of the College's students transfer to Bennington from schools in the U.S. and abroad. Transfer students deepen and broaden the academic and social aspects of the Bennington community. They typically come to campus with a clearer sense of what they want from college, and this makes them especially able to make the most of their own educations. Bennington's educational structures are particularly sensitive to transfer student needs. The Plan Process is designed to support the educational goals of all students, including transfer students.

Students may apply for transfer admission after having completed at least one semester of full-time work at an accredited institution of higher learning. Students with associate's degrees, students who are currently enrolled in college, and students who have withdrawn from another degree program, either recently or in the past, are considered transfer students.

Bennington requires 128 credits and at least two years of full-time residence for graduation. The maximum number of credits that can be transferred from another degree program is 64. We accept most liberal arts and performing arts credits, as well as credit granted for some technical courses such as computer science.

Transfer applicants should use the Common Application along with the Bennington supplement, which includes the transfer essay supplement.
