First-Year and Transfer Students

For 2018-2019  (fall 2018 and spring 2019  terms)

Admissions and Financial Aid deadlines are the same date. It is our goal to provide each student an estimated financial aid award at the time they receive their Admissions decision. Students interested in receiving financial aid should complete the requirements below before the deadline in order to receive an aid award. Domestic first-year and transfer students who are U.S. citizens or eligible non-citizens must submit the following as early as possible. Independent students need not provide parent information. International students, please visit the International undergraduate section.

  1. Bennington Aid Application on your personal My Financial Aid page. Login information was sent to the student via email a few days after submitting the application for admission. While on your My Financial Aid page, check the Required Documents section. Aid applicants will also submit the following.
  2. CSS/Financial Aid PROFILE (students interested solely in federal funds—grant, student, or parent loans—are not required to complete the Profile). The CSS/Noncustodial Parent PROFILE is required if your natural parents are separated, never married or divorced and not in the same household). For exclusion consideration, complete and NCP Waiver Request.
  3. 2018–2019 FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid)
    • Before filing a FAFSA, apply for an FSA ID at fsaid.ed.gov; to be used as your electronic signature on all federal forms annually. Dependent students should have your custodial parent completing the FAFSA with you apply for his/her ID also.
    • Report your and your parents' names and social security numbers exactly as they appear on the social security card. Filing a FAFSA invokes a name/number/citizenship match with the Social Security Administration.
    • If your natural parents are divorced, separated, or single and do not live in the same household, only your custodial parent’s household financial information (including that of your custodial parent’s current spouse) is entered on the FAFSA.
    • Use the Data Transfer Tool on the FAFSA or request an IRS Tax Return Transcript to verify 2016 reported income and taxes - PLEASE do not send us a copy of your actual tax return.
    • 2016 W-2s, parent and student―Send legible copies of employer-issued W-2s for students and parents of dependent applicants to Bennington College. If parents are self-employed, indicate this on the Bennington Aid Application on My Financial Aid.

By May 30 (for enrolling students)

  • Accept, decline, or reduce the funds you were offered online at My Financial Aid and check for any other required documents to finalize your aid award.
  • If you accepted the federal student loan offered in your financial aid award, complete loan entrance counseling and Master Promissory Note (MPN) at studentloans.gov.
  • Parents applying for federal PLUS loans can apply at studentloans.gov as well. Due to the timing of the credit check, please wait until after June 1 to apply for a PLUS loan.

Currently enrolled undergraduate students must submit all application materials before the April 15, 2018 deadline.
