Advanced Workshop for Painting and Drawing
S06, F06
Ann Pibal
This course is for experienced student artists with a firm commitment to serious work in painting or drawing. Students work primarily on self-directed projects in an effort to refine individual concerns and subject matter. Students regularly present work for critique in class as well as for individual studio meetings with the instructor. Development of a strong work ethic and the ability to think clearly and to speak articulately about one’s own work and the work of others is emphasized. During the fall term, a close look at painting and painting processes from the 20th century provides a basis for supplemental student research and presentations. During the spring term, focus will be placed on contemporary art and the development of an understanding of the aesthetic and philosophical context in which artists work today.
