This course will follow E.H. Gombrich’s The Story of Art. The story begins with prehistoric cave paintings and moves rapidly to the present, in a timeline approach to art history. Students are expected to read and to discuss developments as well as present relevant slides on a weekly basis. Approximately 10 weeks will be devoted to discussion, followed by a special project. This project will be determined by each student and may be in the form of any medium, written or visual. Student evaluations will be based on written assignments, class attendance, and in-class participation as well as a final special project. Weekly meetings will allow one hour for individual meetings with students, and two hours for lecture and discussion.
