What in heaven’s name does “classic” really mean? Here we try to find out, with reference to the revival of Graeco-Roman forms of expression in the Renaissance and Baroque periods. The classic style is analyzed as it applies to both writing and painting. Figures covered include Shakespeare, Corneille, Racine, Raphael, Titian, and Poussin.
