Francophone Cultures’ Relationship with the World
F05
Jean Frédéric Hennuy
The numerous countries of the francophone world all relate differently with the global world. By understanding these countries’ histories and investigating how they react, interact, and exist in a global world, students will explore issues of power, cultural stability, and change. Inherent in these histories are links to the colonizing countries, and responses to and recovery from colonization. These histories provide the foundation for understanding present-day relationships with the larger world. Newspapers will be used to delve into current realities of selected francophone countries, with the goal of developing a schema for understanding the role of post-colonial francophone countries in today’s world. Students will be responsible for researching and analyzing specific topics related to the countries studied, presenting them, and leading discussions. Through this course, students will increase their oral and written abilities, while broadening their vocabulary and cultural knowledge. Conducted in French. Low-intermediate level.
