Logic Machines
F05, F06
Joe Holt
We’ll study the fundamentals of computer science with emphasis on the fact that computers are really just simple logic machines that operate at outrageous speeds. We’ll spend the first half of the course studying in-depth the architecture of an archetypal computer. In the second half we’ll focus on individual programming projects, with the intention of developing a solid understanding of the functioning of modern computers. We’ll avoid current fads and buzzwords and strive for a deeper understanding that can be applied across disciplines.
