This course is designed for the committed ceramic student who is ready to focus intently on projects or a way of working. Students will pursue their ideas through a developing making, glazing, and firing process that is integral to their ideas. The discussion of concepts and contexts—why we make what we make and how does it fit into the larger ceramic art world—will be emphasized. Verbalization will be an important part of the course; weekly meetings with the instructor and several group critiques during the term will allow students to clarify their ideas as they work. Students will be expected to write an artist’s statement about their work.
