Prefab
S07
Donald Sherefkin
The average American home continues to increase in size, even as family size contracts and concerns over energy use grow. In response to these trends, there is a small but growing interest in prefabricated houses. There are many precedents for this type of building, from the Sears catalog houses to Buckminster Fuller’s visionary Dymaxion Depolyment Units, one of which was installed on the Bennington College campus. We will review this history, explore the potentials, and make new proposals.
Each project will be developed in detail, from structural systems to materials and furnishings. We will work extensively in drawing and large-scale modeling.
