Throwing: A Perspective in Practice
F05, F06
Barry Bartlett
In this beginning ceramics class, we will use the technique of throwing to investigate utilitarian and sculptural forms. Within those contexts we will study the general history of the wheel as a tool of an agrarian society and of personal expression. Students will learn how to throw and how to interweave historical concepts of their own work. Students will be expected to participate in all aspects of the ceramic process, including but not limited to mixing their own clay, preparing slip and glaze, and loading and firing kilns. Some books will be required for this course.
