Position Title:
Chief Information Officer (CIO)
Department:

Position Description:
Bennington College is realigning its information technology
services and seeks a CIO to lead this initiative. The CIO will
play an integral role in providing leadership for addressing
questions of how technology impacts teaching, learning and
organizational success. The CIO will be a member of the senior
staff and will serve as an active participant in the strategic
decision making for the College. The CIO reports to the
Provost/Dean of the College.
The CIO will lead the Information Technology organization for
the College which provides technology services to students,
faculty, and staff in support of the academic mission and
organizational goals. The CIO will develop and maintain a
comprehensive strategic IT plan for the institution, aligning
operational IT objectives with the mission, strategic plan and
goals of the College. The CIO will evaluate and propose ways to
enhance the instructional mission of the College using IT as a
tool and will work collaboratively with the college management
team to develop and implement technology projects. Managing all
aspects of the College’s IT and telecommunication systems, the
CIO will lead and manage related initiatives and assess the
effectiveness of technology-based services and processes and make
recommendations for enhancements. The CIO will also develop and
manage long-term relationships with technology vendors and
partners.
Qualifications include BA/BS degree and eight to ten years of
related experience or equivalent combination of education and
experience; advanced degree preferred. The position requires
strong leadership and communication skills and prior experience
managing a team of technologists. Candidates must be able to
understand complex challenges and appropriately lead teams and
deploy appropriate technological solutions to meet these
challenges. Essential to the position is the ability to work
effectively with faculty, staff and senior administrators in
areas other than technology to develop and implement uses of
technology. Candidates must possess knowledge of computing
networks, server operations, database systems and systems design
and must have experience managing a departmental budget and skill
in financial analysis. Experience with the implementation of a
campus-wide ERP system, implementing outsourced technology
solutions, and experience in higher education highly desired.
