Deschenes at the Metropolitan Museum of Art

The work of photography faculty member Liz Deschenes is part of Photography on Photography: Reflections on the Medium Since 1960, an exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art through October 19, 2008.

The show spans four decades of photographers who used photography itself as their subject, reflecting on the evolution and status of the medium. “With many more works by younger artists, this installation also provides more of a snapshot of where photography is at the moment,” said Malcolm Daniel, curator in charge of the department of photographs.

In Photography on Photography, Deschenes’ work is among the photography of other artists from the Met’s permanent collections, including Vito Acconci, William Anastasi, Lutz Bacher, Roe Ethridge, Kota Ezawa, Janice Guy, Robert Heinecken, Sherrie Levine, Robert Mapplethorpe, Richard Prince, Josephine Pryde, Thomas Ruff, Allen Ruppersberg, Karin Sander, Hiroshi Sugimoto, and Andy Warhol.

A faculty member at the College since 2006, Deschenes’ work has been exhibited both internationally and throughout the U.S., most recently in Color Chart: Reinventing Color 1950 to Today at The Museum of Modern Art in New York.
