The annual grant is awarded to a select group of nominated artists to assist in furthering their careers.

On leave this semester, Pibal recently returned from Mexico, where she devoted the last three months to painting.

"No internet, no television, no radio," she said. "But the weather was perfect and I got a lot of work done."

Pibal, a faculty member since 1998, has exhibited her paintings and drawings in many esteemed museums and galleries around the world. She has been awarded artist residencies at The MacDowell Colony, Yaddo, UCROSS, and Le Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris, and has been a recipient of a NYFA fellowship, a Pollock-Krasner award, and a Saltonstall Foundation Grant. In May 2008, her work was featured in a solo exhibition at Max Protetch Gallery in New York.

Pibal will return to teach at Bennington in the fall.
