Shawn's New Memoir Garners National Acclaim
Critics everywhere are praising music faculty member Allen Shawn’s new memoir Twin, which looks back at the inextricable bond and life-defining relationship he’s shared with his autistic twin sister, Mary, who was placed in an institution for the mentally disabled at the age of eight.
“Poignant and full of hope,” The Boston Globe wrote, “Twin hauntingly explores the family ties that both bind and release us, even as it asks us to contemplate new ways of knowing and understanding the ones we love.”
The New York Times called Twin “a deeply affecting book—like the author’s music.”
