Bennington College's Early Childhood Center Welcomes New Teachers

The director the Early Childhood Center (ECC), the nationally accredited preschool and kindergarten at Bennington College, announces the addition of two new teachers to the staff, as the academic year gets underway.

“The ECC is very fortunate to have hired two experienced teachers who want to play a role in the development of today’s young children,” says Darlene Bombard, director of the ECC. “The staff at the Early Childhood Center is excited to welcome these two highly regarded teachers.”

Carrie Dee is teaching the Early Years North class, and comes to the ECC from the Maple Street School in Manchester, VT. Dee earned a BS in Education and holds Vermont certification in early childhood education. Alyson Ruby leads the Afternoon Group, has her MS in Early Childhood Education and brings teaching experience from the Happy Days Preschool in Arlington and the Child Development Center in Branford, CT. They join Caz Lewis, Sarah Becker, Kathleen Loomis, and Leigh Orcutt at the school that is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).

The ECC offers children an innovative, developmentally appropriate curriculum for students in pre-school through kindergarten, lead by Bachelors and Masters-level teachers, that includes a swim program at the local recreation center, field trips, a mid-winter art show where the students’ work is on display, innumerable opportunities offered by the college campus setting, and a full-time second language program.

Children must be between two and six years of age to attend the ECC. Students currently enrolled come from all around the region--Bennington, Cambridge, Dorset, Manchester and Williamstown. Limited openings are still available for this school year in all programs offered by the school.
