Internationally Acclaimed Artists Eiko & Koma, In Residence at Bennington College, Open Their Delicious Movement Workshop to the Community
September 22, 2005 Renowned choreographers and performers, Eiko and Koma, are artists-in-residents at Bennington College this fall. They are offering their Delicious Movement workshop to members of the community at 1:00 pm on Sunday, October 2, 2005, in the Martha Hill Dance Theater on the Bennington College campus. Admission is free. The Delicious Movement Workshop, which is open to all ages and requires no previous dance experience, is designed for anyone who loves to move or who wants to love to move with delicious feelings. The goal of the workshop is to encourage the individual participants to acquire personal taste and flexible discipline to suit their own moving bodies, rather than teach Eiko and Komas specific techniques. The Eiko and Koma residency at Bennington College is funded, in part, by an award from the National College Choreography Initiative (NCCI), a Leadership Initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts that is administered by Dance/USA, the national service organization for professional dance. During their time on campus, Eiko and Koma will be working with students to create a new piece to be performed at the College and other regional venues. Eiko and Koma, who have performed at theaters, museums, and festivals worldwide, have received many honors during their nearly three decades of performing including a John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation Fellowship, a Bessie Award, a MacArthur Fellowship, and the Samual H. Scripps American Dance Festival Award for lifetime achievement in modern dance. Native to Japan, Eiko and Koma have been permanent United States residents since 1976 and currently live in New York City. |
