Capturing the Human Experience: Video Artist Amy Jenkins Speaks at Bennington College
September 30, 2005 Award-winning video installation artist Amy Jenkins will speak at Bennington College in Tishman Lecture Hall at 7:30 pm, on Tuesday, October 4, 2005 as part of the ongoing Visual Arts Lecture Series at the College. Jenkins will talk about her latest work, which captures several fundamental human experiences. Through the collaborative use of video, sound, and sculpture, Jenkins creates three-dimensional pieces that evoke a dreamlike narrative that enables viewers to gain an authentic sense of pregnancy, breastfeeding, cradling, and sleeping. Jenkins, who describes wanting her work to "envelop" audiences, has received numerous awards including the Hewlett-Packard Honorary Fellowship, the Director's Choice Award from the Black Maria Film and Video Festival, as well as a Jury's Choice Award at the New York Exposition of Short Film and Video. Jenkins is a Brooklyn-based artist whose installations, video, and photography have been exhibited and published internationally. In addition to numerous awards, her work has received wide-ranging support from granting organizations including the New York State Council of the Arts, the New York Foundation for the Arts, the Pollock-Krasner Foundation, and the Jerome Foundation among others.
