Bennington College Reunion Weekend Offers Rare Films, Readings, and Dance Performances
October 6, 2005 Bennington College's Alumni and Family Weekend opens its doors on Friday, October 7, and Saturday, October 8, 2005, with a variety of events that are free and open to the public. The festivities will begin on Friday, October 7, at 2:00 pm in Kinoteca, with screenings of several short films, including The End: 17 Hours in the Life of a New Orleans Diamond Smuggler by Charles Zeleny '86. The End was the last short film shot in New Orleans before Hurricane Katrina. Other screenings will follow including a film produced by Katy Schonbeck Watson '95 and rare, unearthed, color footage of the Bennington School of the Dance with Martha Graham on Commons lawn. Director of the College's Graduate Writing Seminars, Liam Rector¯featured in the September/October issue of The American Journal of Poetry Review¯will read from his most recent work in Usdan Gallery on Friday, October 7, at 8:00 pm. A reading from a work-in-progress by literature faculty member Rebecca Godwin will begin the event. Danny Herter '06 will direct fellow students in Below The Belt by Richard Dresser, which will also begin at 8:00 pm in Margot Tenney. On Saturday, October 8, a student performance created by internationally acclaimed choreographers Eiko and Koma will take place at 1:30 pm in Martha Hill Dance Theater. Following will be "Inside the Alumni Actor's Studio"--a question-and-answer session beginning at 4:00 pm, in Tishman Lecture Hall. The session will feature Tim Daly '79, former star of the hit television series Wings, and most recently of the film Bereft, which he also directed and produced. Daly has had guest appearances on The Sopranos, Last Call with Carson Daly, and Ellen: The Ellen DeGeneres Show, among others.
