Walk, Run, Bike to New Bennington College Pathway

BENNINGTON,VT¯Bennington College invites the public to its newly - constructed, three-quarter mile -pedestrian and bike path. The path¯designated for runners, walkers, and cyclists¯begins at the College’s main entrance on Route 67A and winds through the meadows and woodlands that line College Drive.

The new pathway is a key element and the latest implementation of the College’s 2003 campus facilities and landscaping plan, which recently received high honors from the Boston Society of Landscape Architects for its landscape analysis and planning. The plan envisions a network of pathways throughout the lush campus landscape, with this leg joining the campus center to Route 67A serving as a vital connection between the campus community and greater Bennington.

The completion of the pathway follows the recent installation of a comprehensive, campus-wide signage system, also intended to ease the coordination of pedestrian and automobile traffic on the residential campus. Later this year, the College will complete the construction of a 10,000-square-foot student center and an ambitious restoration of the historic Deane Carriage Barn. All three projects rely mainly on local contractors and craftspeople.
