Bennington College Presents Vasen: Traditional Swedish Folk Music

Bennington College invites the public to enjoy the performance of musical pioneers Vasen, an acoustic trio from Uppland, Sweden, on Monday, October 2, 2006 at 8 pm in the College’s Greenwall Auditorium, VAPA. The performance is free and open to the public.

The trio, Olov Johansson on nyckelharpa (Swedish keyed fiddle), Mikael Marin on a five stringed viola and Roger Tallroth on 12-string guitar, has toured extensively throughout the United States and Japan beginning in 2001. Global Rhythm has described them as “the most significant Swedish export since the Vikings.”

Vasen offers a sound that is both traditional and innovative, drawing on the ancient music of Sweden with a modern application of attitude and rhythm, which has helped to create compositions that the Washington Post called “immensely brooding, stately, fitfully spry or dramatically expansive.”
