Father of World Music Adam Rudolph Brings his Moving Pictures Octet to Bennington College


Renowned master of world music and ringleader of the transcendental "Moving Pictures" ensemble, Adam Rudolph, brings his octane laden energetic octet to Bennington College on November 17, 2006. The performance begins at 9:30 pm and is free and open to the public.

A composer and percussionist, Adam Rudolph has been heralded as a "pioneer in world music" by The New York Times, and has been experimenting with groundbreaking approaches to percussion for more than three decades. He has collaborated with legendary musicians Yusef Lateef and Don Cherry to create his innovative cross-cultural medley of yarn-spinning dialogue and the hallowed cacophony of horns, woodwinds, strings and drums.

Rudolph's new ensemble, the "Moving Pictures Octet" seeks to engage emotion and thought through skilled musical improvisation and the vibrant multi-vocal language of the world. The ensemble has performed in World Music festivals in North & South America, Europe, Africa, and Japan.

Adam Rudolph has recorded several albums and spearheaded many celebrated collaborative ensembles of as one of the leading figures in World Music since the 1970s. In 1995 he premiered The Dreamer, an opera based on Friedreich Nietzsche's Birth of Tragedy and has been awarded several grants including compositional commissions from the Rockefeller Foundation.
