Faculty Member Honored with Guggenheim Fellowship


The John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation has recognized Yoko Inoue, a visiting art faculty member, by awarding her a fellowship for her innovative work in installation art. She is the 21st Bennington College faculty member to receive this honor.

Inoue, who has taught ceramics at the College since 2004, has also recently received a Franklin Furnace Fund for Performance Art Award for 2005-06 and was one of 20 artists chosen to receive an award from the prestigious Painters and Sculptors Grant Program of the Joan Mitchell Foundation. These awards recognize Inoue’s work in multi-disciplinary projects as well as installation art.

Inoue has exhibited her work in numerous galleries and museums including the Brooklyn Museum of Art, Art in General, Momenta Art in New York City, Socrates Sculpture Park in the Bronx, and the Rutos Gallery in Vilnius, Lithuania. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree at Baika Women’s University, Osaka (Japan), and her Master of Fine Arts degree at Hunter College. She has also taught at Long Island University and the Henry Street Settlement House in New York City.
