Science Faculty Member Chosen to Chair ESA's Annual Meeting in '07
Ecologist Kerry Woods, member of the science faculty for 20 years, has been invited to chair the 2007 Annual Meeting of the 9,000-member Ecological Society of America (ESA), a position typically held by individuals from large research universities. Woods, who earned his PhD in ecology and evolutionary biology from Cornell University, has studied a range of ecosystems and his current researchinvolving many Bennington studentsaddresses the dynamics of old-growth forests in Michigan and landscape patterns in Vermont and the Taconic Mountains of New York. Woods has received several honors over the years, including a Bullard Fellowship at Harvard University in 1999 and also has had visiting appointments at Central European University (Hungary), LandCare Research (New Zealand), and University of Vermont. He is research director for the Huron Mountain Wildlife Foundation and serves as editor for Ecology and Journal of Vegetation Science. In addition to book reviews and book chapters, Woods has published peer-reviewed research papers in Ecology, Journal of Ecology, Remote Sensing of Environment, Canadian Journal of Forest Research, Natural Areas Journal, American Midland Naturalist, Journal of Vegetation Science, and Vegetatio. Woods is a member of the British Ecological Society and the Society for Conservation Biology, as well as the ESA. |
