The Sunday, April 6, 2008, edition of the Pulitzer Prize-winning Rutland Herald features a front-page article titled “The Bennington Revolution,” which traces President Coleman’s 20 years of exceptional leadership at Bennington College.
“Her transformation of the college has led to a new era of prosperity and academic experimentation,” the Herald reports. “Bennington is at enrollment capacity…and a Canadian couple recently donated $20 million to the college in part to honor Coleman's 20th anniversary as president.”
“She took a fragile institution, stabilized it, and brought it into the 21st century,” Claire Van Ummersen, vice president of the American Council on Education's Center for Effective Leadership explains. “That's an incredible accomplishment, and it's due to her foresight as a leader and her willingness to weather the storms that came early in her tenure.”
