Two first-year Bennington students have been recognized as promising young filmmakers for their strong entries in a pair of prestigious film festivals. For his film "Brian's Life," Cole Christine '13 was named winner of the Williamstown Film Festival's
first annual Student Shorts Contest, which drew more than 75 submissions. His film focuses on an encounter between a senior citizen and a young cashier in a Maine coffee shop, and will screen during the Festival's "All-Shorts" slot at Images Cinema on Saturday, October 24, at 2:45pm.
A few weeks later, from November 6-8, classmate Samson Beitler's film "Girl" will be screening at the Filmstock International Film Festival
in Luton, UK. Beitler wrote and acts in the film, which explores the idea of a school shooting being carried out by a girl.
"In every situation involving a school shooting, real or fictional, the antagonist is always a male," Beitler said. "We decided to challenge this stereotype."
