OPEN TO THE PUBLIC | An exhibition of artist books by renowned publisher and book artist Gunnar Kaldewey opens with a reception on Tuesday, September 19, at 6:30-7:30 pm in Bennington’s Usdan Gallery.

Based out of his press in Poestenkill, New York since the mid-1980s, Gunnar Kaldewey’s work embraces the traditions of the early 20th century avant-garde, and places an emphasis on the special relationship between works and images. He began his careers as an antiquarian bookseller, but found his passion as a printer and publisher. Each of Kaldewey’s books is made with extreme care, incorporating work from master binders, and using paper that was either made by hand at the Kaldewey Press or from fine paper sources around the world. His books are notable for their marriage of word and object: each book is physical, sculptural, as well as a work of poetry.
