Chris Rose

Chris Rose is a teaching artist exploring embodiment in music education. A passionate improviser, Rose plays trumpet, piano, and organ, bending and blending genres whenever possible.

Biography

Rose is a musician and teacher from Northeastern Pennsylvania. An avid wanderer both geographically and musically, he has served as Assistant Principal Trumpet in the Fairbanks Symphony Orchestra and taught music in the North Star Borough School District. He has performed with orchestras in Italy, Sweden, South Korea, and around the United States, and has played jazz trumpet and piano aboard Cunard, Crystal, and Royal Caribbean ocean liners, performing with musicians, dancers, and actors from around the world.

His travels took him most recently to Vermont as part of the Marlboro Music Festival and to Colorado for the Jazz Aspen Snowmass Summer Jazz Workshop. He has been to Copenhagen, Denmark as a freelance artist, to South Korea’s Gumi International Music Festival, to New York’s Bridgehampton Chamber Music Festival, and to Russia as part of the inaugural tour of Carnegie Hall’s National Youth Orchestra of the United States of America.

Rose holds an M.M. in orchestral performance from Roosevelt University and a B.F.A. in music performance from Carnegie Mellon University and studied additionally at the Academy of Music and Drama in Gothenburg, Sweden and at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. He is a 2017 Marta Sanchez Dalcroze Training Center Certificate candidate and a credentialed K-12 music educator.

Rose has served as an Associate Editor for the Dalcroze Society of America, and promotes Dalcroze Education in the United States. When he is not writing or performing, he can be found in the classroom, and has been blessed to teach students from kindergarten through university age. He proudly worked as a Teaching Artist for the New York non-profit Empire State Youth Orchestra. A passionate trail runner, Chris resides in Bennington. Rose has been a music fellow and instructor at Bennington since 2019.
