Gus Ramirez is a New York-based multidisciplinary artist that focuses on exploring queer identities and representation in an overwhelming binary world. Through the utilization of interdisciplinary arts that combine to create a historical reference and explorations, they unite to make a queer adjacent history.

Biography

Ramirez was born in El Paso, Texas, and currently lives and works in Cohoes, New York. They are an interdisciplinary artist who received their Master of Fine Arts at New Mexico State University and their Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art with a Concentration in Drawing and a minor in Graphic Design from the University of Texas at El Paso. Their work has been exhibited nationally and internationally throughout the United States and Mexico. They have recently completed a fellowship with New Mexico Indivisible Young Artist fellowship. Ramirez pries open, exposes, and challenges established religious and gender norms within their multi-media practice. Through various visual approaches, they aim to "create a contemplative space where people like them—a gender-fuck, queer, and first-generation Mexican-American—can not only exist but be celebrated."

Ramirez joined Bennington as a Technical Instructor in Visual Arts in Spring 2024.
