OPEN TO THE PUBLIC | THIS EVENT IS THE THIRD IN A SERIES OF THREE. This will be a brief introduction to Chinese Classical Dance, which emphasizes aesthetic integration of ‘ancient Chinese dances’ with “opera dances” and “traditional martial arts.” Yanan will show some videos of examples and will talk about the relationship of Chinese Classical Dance with objects, i.e. “water sleeves” (extension of costume sleeves), fans, and colorful silk fabric. Yanan will focus on the 3 dimensional spiraling form of the body in the space. She will emphasize the breath and its connections to the mechanics of the spine, which is the main source of the fluid movements that extend throughout the body.

Classes from 1:00-3:00 in dance studio E303 on 3/11, 3/18 and 3/25.
Yanan Yu, MFA in Dance is from Guangzhou, Southern China. She will offer a contemporary approach to Chinese Classical Dance.
