Student Health Center

The Student Health Center supports your physical, emotional, and psychological well-being through medical services, counseling, health education, and referrals. Our goal is to help you stay healthy, manage challenges, and access care with confidence during your time at Bennington.

The Student Health Center is located between the EAC and the Meyer Recreation Barn and is open Monday-Friday during the fall and spring academic terms.

(closed for lunch 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM daily)

When the Health Center Is Closed

During Field Work Term and summer break, the Student Health Center operates on a limited schedule and may not offer full services.

Medical Services

The Student Health Center provides primary care while you’re at Bennington, including evaluation, treatment, and preventive care.

Services include, but are not limited to:

  • Care for acute illness and injury
  • Prescriptions and over-the-counter medications 
  • Management of ongoing or chronic conditions
  • Routine physicals and wellness visits
  • Immunizations (including tetanus, hepatitis B, meningitis, chickenpox, and flu)
  • Sexual and reproductive health care, including contraception
  • Travel consultations and pre-travel care
  • Health education (nutrition, safer sex, substance use, smoking cessation, and more)
  • Referrals for specialized care and diagnostic testing

Many diagnostic services, including lab work and imaging, are coordinated through Southwestern Vermont Medical Center.

Our nurse practitioners serve as your primary care providers while you are away from home and work with you to support informed, active participation in your health.

Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS)

Located in the Student Health Center, Counseling and Psychological Services supports students’ mental health, emotional well-being, and personal development. Staff includes licensed clinicians, permitted clinicians, and interns who endeavor to provide students with an array of counseling and psychological services. 

Students seek counseling for a wide range of concerns, including: 

  • Stress and anxiety
  • Academic or personal challenges
  • Relationship concerns
  • Emotional well-being
  • Personal growth and self-understanding

Services include, but are not limited to:

  • Individual psychotherapy
  • Cognitive and skills-based therapy
  • Couples counseling
  • Referrals for specialized care
  • Medication management when appropriate

Health Insurance and Costs

All full-time students must have active health insurance coverage.

The Student Health Center functions like a medical office:

  • Services are billed to insurance
  • You may have out-of-pocket costs depending on your plan
  • A sliding scale is available for some expenses based on financial need

Students are responsible for understanding their insurance coverage, including in-network and out-of-network benefits.
